Advising                                             2.4 Credits

Visual Art Careers: Shadowing and Career Exploration 1 Credit -- 150 Hours

A student must complete 150 hours of career exploration. This experience may come in the forms of shadowing, volunteer work, and internship experience. The time must be journalized and negotiated with the students' advisor.

Shadowing

Students must complete three (3) shadowing experiences. They should be completed by the end of the sophomore year. Each shadowing experience should be a minimum of one-half of a day. One experience must be from the field of art.

Volunteer Work

A student may earn hours by doing volunteer work within the pathway. This may include things such as designing and painting murals, theater set design, community art exhibits. (A student may choose not to do volunteer work in the pathway field. If that be the case, the student would earn .66 credits for Career Exploration – 100 hours. The student would need to complete the Community Service requirement.)

Internship

A student must have a minimum of 50 hours as an intern in the Arts field. Interns must follow the guidelines in the Internship Guidebook.

Community Service .33 Credit – 50 Hours

This requirement can be waived if it is incorporated into the Pathway Career Exploration.
Students enrolled in the Visual Arts Pathway will earn a minimum of 29.66 credits to graduate with an emphasis in the Visual Arts. Students must successfully complete all University High School required coursework.

Career possibilities in Visual Arts

Pathways in the performing arts (stagecraft/drama and music) and the humanities are being developed
