Advanced Strength & Conditioning

This fitness course will focus on developing the human body for athletic activities.  This class is only for those individuals who are willing to put forth the maximum effort possible.  There will be an emphasis on increasing muscular strength, muscular endurance, speed, flexibility, and body composition.

Advanced Strength & Conditioning -- Zero-Hour

This fitness course will focus on developing the human body for athletic activities.  This class is only for those individuals who are willing to put forth the maximum effort possible.  There will be an emphasis on increasing muscular strength, muscular endurance, speed, flexibility, and body composition.  This class will meet during a zero-hour block every morning from 6:20–7:10 am.

Advanced Wellness

This wellness course will focus on health related issues that directly affect our society. The topics covered will range from drug addictions and alcoholism to lifestyle choices and decisions.

Adventure Education

This physical education course will focus on the various elements of outdoor activities.  The main components of the course will involve backcountry travel (skiing/snowboarding and snowshoeing), avalanche awareness, meal preparation, hiking, camping, outdoor survival, fly fishing, and rock climbing.  The intentions of the course are to educate students on activities which are performed in the outdoors.  Students will be expected to pay for certain trips and activities.

Alternative Fitness

The focus of this fitness course will be to provide students with alternative ways to improve personal fitness.  The class will consist of various activities such as yoga, pilates, dance, and other non-traditional forms of fitness.  The purpose of this class is to provide students with a different approach to becoming a more healthy and active person.

First Aid/CPR Education

This wellness course follows the guidelines for the American Red Cross Standard First Aid/CPR certification.  This class will focus on life saving and response skills along with basic injury care and prevention. Upon completion of requirements, students will be certified in First Aid/CPR.  Fees will be used for certification cards and supplies.

Individual Activities

This physical education course will focus on sports and games that involve an individual effort.  The activities for the course will be dependent on the trimester.. Each unit will begin with an introduction to the activity and move on to development of skills, knowledge of rules and successful strategies. Students will be expected to pay for certain trips and activities.

Introduction to Physical Education

This physical education course is recommended for students who are interested in an introductory physical education course.  The class introduces students to a variety of physical activities and games.  The emphasis will be on game activities, fitness activities, and participation.

This wellness course is recommended for sophomores.  The class introduces student to the different components of leading a healthy and positive lifestyle.  Students will develop and implement different types of wellness plans.  This course is required for graduation.

Lifetime Fitness

This fitness course will focus on how to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.  The purpose of this course is to educate students on how to implement a fitness program and control personal health in their daily lives.  Students will spend part of their time in the classroom learning about fitness and human anatomy, and the other part applying that information to their bodies.

Lifetime Fitness II

This fitness course will continue the principles taught in Lifetime Fitness.  The focus will be on fitness program development and improvement of personal fitness levels.  Students will spend time in the classroom learning about fitness principles and human anatomy and most of the time applying that information to their bodies.

Open Block

Studies show that few teenagers get enough sleep.  In some cases, athletes may have difficulty meeting class requirements due to sport-related absences.  For these reasons, parents may request open blocks for freshman and sophomores in the morning or afternoon.  Please note that students who are scheduled for an open block morning (Block 1 or 6) may not be on campus until 15 minutes before the next class begins, and students who are scheduled for an open block afternoon (Block 4 or 9) may not be on campus for more than 15 minutes after the last class is dismissed.  Parents are responsible for transportation.

Study Hall

This course is designed to allow time for students to work on homework.  Students with busy lives may benefit from having a block of time dedicated solely to homework.  Study Hall is open to freshman and sophomores only and cannot be taken concurrently with Study Skills or Open Block.  Students can specify which trimester they would like to have Study Hall.

Study Skills

This course is designed to help students become more proficient in their abilities to study and become academically successful. This course will focus on the areas of note taking, reading textbooks, writing essays, taking tests, and making studying a more effective experience. This course is intended for students who struggle in these areas and need the extra support and guidance that it will provide. This course should not be taken concurrently with study hall.
