npAccounting-Honors
Principles, concepts, and procedures, including journal entries for service and merchandising businesses – sole proprietorships and partnerships – posting to ledgers, preparing financial statements, and closing the books at the end of the fiscal period. The complete accounting cycle will be covered through the use of business simulations and utilizing Excel software. Strong math skills are helpful in this honors class.

*‡Advanced Placement Calculus
The calculus syllabus is for a full-year course in elementary functions and introductory calculus. Students who successfully complete this course will be well-prepared to take the Advanced Placement Calculus AB in order to place themselves in a second semester calculus course when they enter college. Students must earn a "C" or better to continue in the course AND advance to the next math course. Credit of .33 is given at the end of each trimester. $97 exam fee.

Pre-Algebra
This is the first year of a two part series of courses which will begin to cover the material equivalent to an Algebra I course over a span of two years. This course will provide a solid basis in pre-algebra topics. In this course, students will perform operations with signed numbers for integers, fractions and decimals. Students will be able to simplify algebraic expressions, use order of operations, solve one and two step equations in one variable, as well as use the xy-coordinate system to graph linear equations. Finally, students will be able to solve problems that involve rations, perimeter and basic polygons and circles. The entire course will emphasize problem solving and exposure to the TI-83/84 Graphing Calculator.
GRADE LEVEL: 9-12 CREDIT: 1.0
FEES: $0 LENGTH: Year
PREREQUISITE: Successful completion of Foundations for Algebra Year 2 (FFA2) and Teacher Consent
*Algebra I
This class focuses on topics such as writing, solving and graphing equations as well as symbol manipulation. Students will learn how to work in teams, factor polynomials, organize data, review the concept of area and perimeter, do patterning and graphing, write and solve equations, set up (numerical, geometric and algebraic) ratios, use exponents, solve quadratic equations, define and use functions, use problem solving and use a graphing calculator.

*Algebra II
This class focuses on representation and modeling, intersections and systems, algorithms, and reasoning and communication. Students will learn how to explore functions in more depth, deal with exponential functions, take quadratics to the next step, work with linear systems and matrices, work with logarithms and inverse functions, apply more knowledge to polynomial functions and their properties, identify circular functions, apply trigonometric function properties and work with conics.

*Honors Courses -- Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus
Honors courses are intended for students with a passion for mathematics or mathematics related fields. The Honors track is intended for students to be bound for Advanced Placement Calculus. Entry level skills and work habits should be very strong for students considering an Honors track. Students must be academically motivated, disciplined and eager for the content challenge. The course will entail rigorous journals and competitive tests challenging their intellectual abilities. Students are expected to perform above and beyond in all aspects of the course.

Individualized Math Program (IMP)
This course is designed as an intervention for students who are struggling in their mainstream math class. It is not meant to replace a math course, but to accompany the course and allow the student extra time and tutoring to succeed.* Students will use their time to finish homework and journals. All other time will be spent on the ALEKS web-based mathematics program, which will be used to help students hone previous skills and fill in gaps in knowledge.
Students may only take IMP on a referral basis, through their current math teacher, special educator, or counselor. Elective credit will be awarded for this class. Exceptions may be made for students on an individualized education plan.
GRADE LEVEL: 9-12 CREDIT: Variable
FEES: $0 LENGTH: Variable
PREREQUISITE: Concurrent enrollment in other math class, referral from math teacher, special educator, or counselor.
*Pre Calculus
This discipline combines many of the trigonometric, geometric, and algebraic techniques needed to prepare students for the study of calculus and strengthens their conceptual understanding of problems and mathematical reasoning in solving problems. This class takes a functional point of view toward those topics. The concept of Limits as is combined with a course in trigonometry and linear algebra to make a year long Pre Calculus course.
GRADE LEVEL: 10-12 CREDIT: 1.00
FEES: $0 (TI84) LENGTH: Year
PREREQUISITE: Algebra 2 and Teacher Consent
Senior Math Topics
Senior Math Topics is designed for seniors who will benefit from an applied approach to mathematics. The material is hands on and designed to be of high interest and useful for all. This course may be taken as an alternative to Pre-Calculus or taken concurrently or after Pre-Calculus.
GRADE LEVEL: 12 CREDITS: 1.0
