This course introduces students to the systematic study of patterns and processes that have shaped human understanding, use, and alteration of Earth’s surface. Students employ spatial concepts and landscape analysis to explore human social organization and its environmental consequences. Admission by application. *History of the British Isles

This class will examine the early tribes of England moving into the development of the Saxons and Norman groups.  The development and rise of the Parliamentary form of government is examined.  Special attention will be paid to the relationship among England, Scotland, Wales and Irish Conflict.  The class will also show England as an empire builder.

This course will provide students with an overview of Irish History beginning in the 16th Century with Henry VIII’s control of Ireland, impact of the Great Famine on Ireland and the world, development of the great Irish liberators and home rule, followed by the Anglo-Irish War and Civil War.  We then move into the late 20th Century and Ireland’s place in the world at large.

This survey course will examine the major contribution of selected writers, thinkers, philosophers (the first two categories actually describe the third) and the effects they have had upon western thought.  In addition the class will explore several systems of logical argument and consider some thought experiments such as Schroedinger’s cat and Mary and her white room.
