*American Sign Language
This class exposes the student to American Sign Language (ASL). Readiness activities are conducted focusing on
visual/receptive skills and basic communication. The direct experience method, using ASL, is used to enhance the learning process. Students must complete this class with a grade of “C” or higher if planning to enroll in ASL II.

In this class, the student has an opportunity to develop a basic syntactic knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL), basic vocabulary and basic conversational skills. This course will introduce students to beginning levels of communication skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing in French within the context of French culture--France and her people. Listening and speaking proficiency in the language with appropriate beginning level vocabulary and grammatical structures will be emphasized. Credit of .33 will be given at the end of each trimester. The fee is for a workbook.

This course is designed for students who have basic grammar skills and intermediate conversational skills in French. French cultural contexts will be the focus for reinforcing communication skills or listening, speaking, reading, and writing at a high novice-intermediate level of proficiency. Students will work entirely in the language using French as the primary means of communication. Special emphasis will be on advanced communication skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing), advanced grammar, literature, and cultural studies. The targeted proficiency level range is mid-high intermediate level. Credit of .33 will be given at the end of each trimester. The fee is for a workbook.

This course will introduce students to the beginning level of communication skills through writing, reading, listening and speaking the German language. Language proficiency will be emphasized using beginning level vocabulary and grammatical structures. Students will also be exposed to the customs, cultures and geography of German speaking countries. Credit of .33 will be given at the end of each trimester.

*Spanish V
This course is designed for students who are proficient in the Spanish language at an intermediate level and are prepared to work in Spanish as the primary means of communication. Special emphasis will be on advanced communication skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing), grammar, literature and culture. Much of the class will be spent on reading so that students will learn to appreciate Hispanic literary works and be encouraged to continue their study of Spanish and improve their skills. The targeted proficiency level is high-intermediate to advanced. Credit of .33 will be given at the end of each trimester.
