*American Sign Language

This class exposes the student to American Sign Language (ASL).  Readiness activities are conducted focusing on Sign Languagevisual/receptive skills and basic communication.  The direct experience method, using ASL, is used to enhance the learning process.  Students must complete this class with a grade of “C” or higher if planning to enroll in ASL II.

In this class, the student has an opportunity to develop a basic syntactic knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL), basic vocabulary and basic conversational skills.  Vital aspects of deaf culture and community are incorporated.  The direct experience method, using ASL, is used to enhance the learning process.

*German I

This course will introduce students to the beginning level of communication skills through writing, reading, listening and speaking the German language.  Language proficiency will be emphasized using beginning level vocabulary and grammatical structures.  Students will also be exposed to the customs, cultures and geography of German speaking countries. Credit of .33 will be given at the end of each successfully completed trimester.

Students will continue to develop and refine a functional vocabulary base and grammar skills through speaking, writing, reading, and listening at an intermediate level.  Functional speaking skills and an understanding of the culture will be stressed.  This class will be conducted primarily in German. Credit of .33 will be given at the end of each successfully completedtrimester.  Fees will be used for cooking fee.

*German III

In this course students will continue to develop communicative skills at an intermediate level.  Students will apply both old and new vocabulary and grammar through discussions of various topics relevant to the students, as well as in reading and discussing current events and short stories.  Students are required to have a German-English dictionary. This class will be conducted primarily in German.  Credit of .33 will be given at the end of each successfully completedtrimester.

*German IV Honors

In this course students will continue to develop communicative and reading skills at an advanced level.  Students will apply both old and new vocabulary and grammar through discussions of various topics relevant to the students, as well as in reading and discussing historical information, current events, short stories, and literature.  Students are required to have a German-English dictionary. This class will be conducted primarily in German.  Credit of .33 will be given at the end of each successfully completedtrimester.

np cpAdvanced Placement Spanish Language

The college level Advanced Placement Spanish course is designed for college-bound students who are interested in continuing and expanding their knowledge of the Spanish language.  Spanish will be the only language used in the classroom.  The emphasis will be on Grammar, literature and advanced communication skills (listening, presentational and interpersonal speaking, reading and writing.  Students may take the national AP exam ($97 exam fee) in May.

*Spanish I

The objectives of Spanish I are:  1) to help students attain proficiency in the four fundamental language skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing; 2) to help students acquire a firm linguistic base, which is the foundation of truly effective communication and meaningful language proficiency; 3) to present the language within the context of the contemporary Spanish-speaking world and its culture. The targeted proficiency level is novice intermediate. Credit of .33 will be given at the end of each trimester. Fee will be used for student workbook.

Credit of .33 will be given at the end of each trimester.  Fees will be used for student workbook.

This course is designed for students who are proficient in the Spanish language at a novice-high level and are prepared to work in Spanish as a primary means of communication. Special emphasis will be on intermediate communication skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing), grammar, literature and cultural studies. The targeted proficiency level is intermediate.

*Spanish IV

This course is designed for students who are proficient in the Spanish language at an intermediate level and are prepared to work in Spanish as the primary means of communication.  Special emphasis will be on advanced communication skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing), grammar, literature and cultural studies.  The targeted proficiency level is intermediate advanced.  Fees will be used for student workbook.

*Spanish for Native Speakers

This course is designed for students who speak Spanish.  The emphasis will be on grammar, literature, and advanced communication skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing).  The class will always be conducted in Spanish and students are required to speak Spanish all the time while in the classroom.
