• Born Leonardo Pisano but better known by his nickname Fibonacci
• Born and died in Italy but educated in North Africa
• Traveled widely with his father
• Wrote Liber Abaci which was based on the math he acquired during his travels
• Best known for the Fibonacci sequence 1,1,2,35,8,13,21,34,55,... each number is the sum of the two preceding numbers
• First to note n²+ (2n+1) = (n+1)²
