High School Curriculum
Students may choose from courses in English, math, social studies,
science, world languages, fine arts, health and physical education,
computer technology, and applied arts, which includes business education
and consumer and family studies. A variety of interdisciplinary
courses and Advanced Placement (AP) courses are also offered. Students
must earn 26.4 credits to graduate. (A "*" indicates
required courses). In addition to the regular curriculum, students
must complete 50 hours of community service, 3 half-day shadowing
experiences, 50 hours of internship, a portfolio, and a senior project.
University High School students also have the option of earning a diploma after following a graduation pathway. Some pathways
place an emphasis on an area of strong interest, passion, or talent.
The goal of a pathway is to develop and graduate young people who
are ready for real world experiences - a four-year college, two-year
associate degree programs, skilled trade apprenticeships, or jobs
in the global, technological workplace. Students may elect to enter
a pathway program after their freshmen or sophomore year.
