Parking: Students have the privilege of parking in the south parking lot at no charge. In order to maintain this privilege, students are expected to drive cautiously in the lot and surrounding neighborhoods and to show respect to the other cars in the lot. To promote safety and security, students are required to provide information about the make and model of their car, the license plate number and proof of both insurance and a valid driver’s license. Throughout the year, students who receive their license or decide to begin driving to school will need to register.

Getting to School: Parents of University Schools are responsible for transporting their children to and from school. After the School Directory is printed, you may want to check for other students who live in your area to car pool. We want to make certain that everyone is able to get to school and picked up in a timely manner.

Morning Drop-off and Afternoon Pick-up Procedures: Click here to view or print the traffic flow procedures.

Staying after School: Please make sure your children are picked up right after school. The only students that should be staying after school are those who have a scheduled activity, athletic practice, or will be in the math lab or after school homework lab.

School Times: Elementary and Middle School students should not arrive at school prior to 7:30 during the school year. A playground supervisor is available at this time.

Attendance Procedures

If your child will miss school for any reason, please call the Attendance Office at 506-7000 before 10:00 am. Voice messaging is available after office hours to leave a message at any time.

If your child needs to leave school for an appointment, have him/her stop by the Attendance Office before school with a note from you (or a previous phone call). The Attendance Clerk will give the student an early dismissal slip to give to the teacher authorizing the teacher to let the student leave. High School students can then either meet you at a designated spot or wait for you in the office. Middle School students should wait in the office and elementary students should wait for parents in the classroom.

Upon returning to school, all students should report to the main office before going to class. It is important to remember that parents report absences, but only the school may legally excuse them.

  • Any tardy that is not a result of illness, injury, doctor, or family emergency will be considered unexcused. In case of excessive absences or tardiness, it may be necessary for parents to provide documentation.
  • To be excused, all students who are ill during the day need to check out through the Health Office before going home. Someone from the Health Office will call home to notify you that the student is ill. If your child calls you from school, instruct him/her to go to the Health Office.

  • A message will be placed on the school voice mail informing callers of the closure.
  • A school faculty phone tree will be initiated.

Early Release Procedures: If conditions warrant an early release from school, the administrators will make the decision. Advisors will call parents. Administrators will call District #6 bus service and the media .
