The advising program is one of the most important
ways through which students develop feelings of belonging in the
school community. Through daily contact with an advisor, students
learn in a supportive community of peers and faculty. The advisor
supervise and enhances the total development of the student.
General Objectives
Program Components
- The advisor serves as a mentor
- The advisor assists in the development of portfolios, including
Personal Learning Plans (PLPs), senior essay or autobiography,
and a resume
- The advisor monitors the progress of classes
- The group provides opportunities for peer tutoring
- The advisor communicates the progress of students to parents
- The program encourages students to explore a wide variety of
learning experiences
- The program teaches and reinforces organizational skills, goal
setting, and career planning
- The advisor assists students in completing requirements for
graduation:
- Community Service (50 hours)
- Shadowing (three 1/2-day experiences)
- Internship (50 hours)
- Senior Project
- The program provides activities that develop and reinforce appropriate
social skills
- The group provides a supportive and safe environment
- The program develops the members into a strong support system
for each other, and encourages personal communications and experience
that lead to respect for and acceptance of diversity in others
Advising meets Tuesday through Friday for 30 minutes each day.
Grading is Credit/NoCredit (S/U), for .2 credits per trimester. |
